30 Weeks: 6.5.12
How your baby's growing:
Your baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage).A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. Her eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after she's born, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)
How your life's changing:
You may be feeling a little tired these days, especially if you're having trouble sleeping. You might also feel clumsier than normal, which is perfectly understandable. Not only are you heavier, but the concentration of weight in your pregnant belly causes a shift in your center of gravity. Plus, thanks to hormonal changes, your ligaments are more lax, so your joints are looser, which may also contribute to your balance being a bit off. Also, this relaxation of your ligaments can actually cause your feet to spread permanently, so you may have to invest in some new shoes in a bigger size.
Remember those mood swings you had earlier in pregnancy? The combination of uncomfortable symptoms and hormonal changes can result in a return of those emotional ups and downs. It's normal to worry about what your labor will be like or whether you'll be a good parent. But if you can't shake the blues or feel increasingly irritable or agitated, talk to your doctor or midwife. You may be among the 1 in 10 expectant women who battle depression during pregnancy. Also let your caregiver know if you're frequently nervous or anxious.
Update:
- Last Tuesday 5.29.12 We finally locked down an in home day care provider for you. I am so thrilled! She is super nice, is licensed and she is a neighbor. We only have to pay for days you go, and we don't worry about days you are not there. She also has an hourly rate (if I need to get things done!) She provides wipes and food and all we need to do is supply diapers! I'm so excited!!
- I am extra tired lately. Most nights I come home from work, and have dinner and crash on the couch. 8:30 seems to be the magic time I make it till. I haven't had many nights where I can't sleep, though dad says he's not sleeping great because I keep him up snoring some nights.
- I haven't noticed any difference in needing new shoes..although with it being warmer I am already wearing a lot of open toed shoes and sandals that give me a little more room and let my feet breathe.
- I do seem moodier lately. Just the combination of knowing that there is 10 weeks (or hopefully less) left. Changes in my routine, coworkers, the stress of an out of town wedding this weekend, a trip home next weekend for my baby shower, etc.... I just seem frazzled. Lately there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done. But I am slowly checking things off my list.
- I started going to the doctor every 2 weeks now. She listened to your heartbeat and it was around 130 (normal) my fundal height was 29 at 30 weeks (as long as it is within 3 it's normal) and I asked about my Glucose test score. My doctor uses 135 and under as their guideline. Most use either 130 or 140 I came in at 108! So I passed with flying colors.
- Today I signed up online for childbirth class through the hospital. We elected to take the 1 day class instead of the 5 week class due to scheduling and long hours at work. And then we have a Newborn Care class scheduled as well 2 days later. I am looking forward to both of these, and from everyone I have talked to they say it's very helpful.
