IPL Hair Removal

IPL Permanent Hair Reduction

The IPL process uses intense pulsed light to gently remove unwanted hair, putting an end to routine shaving and waxing. IPL treatments leave your skin looking and feeling smoother and silkier. This patented technology transcends the older, painful hair removal treatments to deliver safe, fast and gentle, long lasting results.

Today, laser hair removal is one of the most popular laser treatments in the world. Its safety and effectiveness have made most other treatments for excessive hair growth obsolete.

How Does It Work?

The laser is passed over the skin, and light energy is absorbed by dark pigment in hair follicles beneath the skin, disabling hundreds of hairs at a time. The proper selection of the optimal laser, depending upon hair and skin type is imperative.

Treatment areas include the face, lip, underarm, bikini line, legs, back, buttocks, feet, shoulders, abdomen. Any area with dark hair may be treated.

Usually there is no down time, though some patients can have some mild swelling for a few hours. Patients will require multiple sessions; however the number of treatments needed is dependent on the laser energy setting, and the patient's skin and hair type.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

Typically 3-6 treatments 4-6 weeks apart per area. Some areas may require additional treatments. The laser treatments work by actually disabling the hair that is in the active growth phase at the time of the treatment. Not all of individuals' hair follicles are producing hair at the same time, but actually go through three different phases: growth, regression and resting. Since other hairs will eventually enter into the active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to inactivate other hair follicles in a given area. Following the treatment, most patients return to their normal activity immediately.

Benefits include:

•Fast
•Affordable
•Minimal risk
•Removes hair and hair bumps (pseudofolliculitis barbae), ingrown hairs
•Large areas can be done at one time
•Multiple areas can be done at one time

Laser hair removal is something that I have always wanted to do.  Shaving is something that no one enjoys and I figured with summer right around the corner why not make it easier!  So after purchasing a packaged deal of 6 sessions for $99 from Groupon  (Retail price originally $600!) I headed to the med spa to start my underarm treatments.

I got fabulous results after my very first session, and was very eager to go back for my follow up sessions.  I was very nervous the day of my first session mostly because I didn't know how bad it was going to hurt. The tech explained to me what was going to happen and we started icing the area to numb it.  She brings the machine over and starts snapping away, pulses of light and a beep every 7 seconds once the machine is ready to fire again!  That easy!! I only had a few areas that made me cringe but nothing a little more icing couldn't take care of...and onto the other side.  After about 5 minutes in the office I was done!  That easy!!  I had absolutely no reactions... no burning, rashes, irritation, swelling...Nothing!!  And all I had to do was grow 3 days worth of hair and go in and have it removed in 5 minutes!

I was informed at today's appointment, that with summer coming up to stay out of the sun because tanned areas don't respond to the treatment as well as untanned skin and once I become pregnant and a have a child, with hormone levels changing, I may need to come back in for a few follow up "maintenance session" to rid of any new follicles that may have sprouted. Otherwise absolutely pain free this session today.

I highly recommend this procedure to anyone who wants to be hair free!

Currently...

Loving.... FINALLY the light at the end of the tunnel on home ownership, Overtime that is voluntary and not mandatory, IPL hair removal, Spring weather, windows open, flipflops, Scentsy scents, new shows, the end of evening shift for my husband, house related things!

Excited for... April 13th, 2011 CLOSING DAY!!, Painting walls of our new home, decorating our new home, buying furniture for our new home, parking in a garage again (can you sense a pattern??...i'm very excited to be a homeowner!!)

Worried... I am worried out! This past week has been very trying on my emotions. We almost lost the house that we have been patiently waiting for at the 11th hour! So much to do in such a little time!!

Creating.... Lists (things we need to purchase, address changes that need to be made, people to contact, etc...) paper trails of appointments and things that need to get done, clusters of paint chips that are potential candidates for 4 rooms and 3 bathrooms that need to be painted, online albums of ideas for decorating from ideas spotted online.

Hating... Stress...headaches, body aches, tension (all associated with said home purchase!)

Wondering... All sorts of things....my brain just won't shut off lately (and it's exhausting!!) If everything will finally come together smoothely? Why banks don't make "short sales" easier? How long my new 13mi commute will take to adjust to? What will our neighbors be like?  How much fun is painting really going to be? How much is moving again going to really suck?  How sore am I going to be?

Craving...  Healthy food.  I have made a real effort to watch what I have been eating.  Lots of fruit, cereal, water, cottage cheese, yogurt, bagel thins.

Hoping... the next few months are just as fun and exciting as I think they are going to be in my head!

Watching.... From Netflix in the past month: Eat, Pray, Love, Nurse Jackie: Season 2, Weeds: Season 6, Unstoppable, Due Date, Faster, Social Network, The Kids are All Right

DVR: The Amazing Race, Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Holly's World, Real Housewives of Orange County and Miami, Coming Home, One Born Every Minute, 19 Kids and Counting, Bethenny Ever After, Teen Mom 2, ANTM, DC Cupcakes, House Hunters, My First Place.....

Listening... Silence!  A migraine has kept me down the better part of today (probably stress related!)

Looking forward to... April 13th, 2011!! Going home to visit in May, seeing friends and getting caught up on life, babies that are going to start being born one after another here starting next month.
